Willenskraft is one of those albums very difficult to listen, although it’s masterfully by the energy and the emotion that emit. For my part, I loved the album for its composition, the sequence of titles and the melodies "Stanley Kubrick style". How did the period of composition works? What were your sources of inspiration?
- The inspiration comes only from within myself and depends on the quality of time, either. The period of composition comes like tides. Sometimes more, sometimes less…
The alternation between pure ambient sounds evoking elements of nature and the mid-tempo black metal is unconventional but very effective. Why did you decide to switch these two styles for each title?
- It just developed that way… and furthermore the patterns of the album are used to support the feeling of the songs. Some songs have to be calm… some not. Depends on the meaning I want to express.
Your previous album, Hin-Fort, was more ambient-oriented than Willenskraft. Why opt for this new balance between the two styles? Just an evolution of your style? State of mind during the composition?
- It was just the state of mind during the progress. And it fits to what I want to set free throughout this album.
Can you explain the contrast behind the album title: Willenskraft. The title seems to refer to something positive but the universe, music, song and the artwork dictate otherwise. However, on the cover, the man seems to escape from a dark land to an unknown brighter?
- The deeper meaning of the title/album relates on discipline, heart's desire and everything which is connected with your own strength in mind and heart! For me “Willenskraft” (willpower) is a high gear for inner development. Being altruistic but without losing yourself. A thin line...
The songwriting and the assembling of the album is graded in sections one could walk through by finding his gear: Awareness... Daringness... Disbelief... Heart's Desire... Obviation... Consecration. In fact these are the 6 titles of the songs, as well. The album exists of bright and dark aspects.
Black metal music generally unveils strong emotion. A tactical link between ambient music and black metal as you are using causes a strong power emanation. What did you think about the new black metal scene and its many ramifications?
- Sorry, but I am really not up to date concerning the nowadays scene.
Trist's nickname makes me think to the French term "triste" (sad in English), is it a coincidence?
- No.
Outside your project Trist, your brother and you are also the founding members of the Lunar Aurora band. It seems that you have currently set aside this project to get on with other projects such as Trist. Is it expected to recompose a new album with Lunar Aurora?
- My brother is not a founding member of Lunar Aurora. Me and Whyrhd are the 2 founding members. We are dealing again with LUNAR AURORA and some ideas... but it is still too early to talk about that. Maybe there will come a new album... and maybe not.
Your brother and you seemed to be key elements of the label Cold Dimensions, are you active members within this label?
- Again it is not my brother who is envolved within Cold Dimensions. Whyrhd’s running the label on his own.
Thanks for the interview, a last word?
