Formed in May '96, DROWNING spent their first year practising hard and performing in France and Belgium. Combining the most brutal elements of Death Metal and the violence of today's Hardcore, their first live shows left their mark on the crowd. Soon they had rounded up a small base of DROWNING loyals.
The band's second year brought them a split 7' with Restrain (USA) on Back Ta Basics, a New York based label. DROWNING featured 2 songs on the Overcome Records (FR) Compilation CD "In This Other Land". This was done with the help of a new drummer (Dominique).
June 98 saw another line-up change for the band. New bass player (Stephane) and lead singer (Ridwan) were added. Now they were ready to take the music scene by storm.
Early '99 DROWNING recorded a MCD on Released Power Productions (BE). Their shows took them all over France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. Playing with bands like Napalm Death, Malevolent Creation, Sinister, Rebaelliun, Stamping Ground, All Out War, Snapcase, Turmoil they earned the respect of many.
The year 2000 saw more of the same, more shows and a lot of time spent in the rehearsal room. In September their luck ended. Drummer Dominique broke his finger and was "out of service" for 4 months. However this didn't stop them from doing a one week tour with friend Gael as replacement drummer, sharing the stage with Stamping Ground.
The next year 2001, barely 2 months old sees DROWNING going into the studio to record new material, in order to get a new record deal. The result was a four songs promo showing a much stronger Death Metal influence in their music, as well as a new found identity. After a few months and a few more shows most noticebly with the likes of Krisiun, Pyaemia or Aborted, DROWNING finally signed on French based Grind/Death label Bones Brigade Records. During the whole year, the band kept working hard on new material, and had the opportunity to feature on the "Created To Kill " split CD with two songs off their last year"s promo.
In mid December, DROWNING started recording their first full lenght "AGE OLD NEMESIS", featuring ten tracks of DROWNING's own take on death metal. Listening to these songs, it appears evident that the band has grown immensely in terms of maturity, with an emphasis on brutality, catchy hooks, and in your face vocals, they simply go for the jugular.
In April, 2002 "AGE OLD NEMESIS" hits the streets. Through the good response to their effort and with a growning crowd coming to their shows, DROWNING played a lot all around France, U.K and Belgium with Labrat, Hatebreed, Aborted and more. Once again the bad luck stroke as Ridwan(vocals) decided to quit the band in january. As no replacement was found or efficient help, they were forced to cancel their US appearance at a huge festival and a lot of european shows as well. With the arrival of James, DROWNING hits the road once again and focus on their second album as well.
They're back with a vengeance with teir second full lenght CD call Apocalypse Unsealed (out in november 2005), record with Hubert Letombe at Midnight Studio (Warscars, Gronibard) with Ridwan for the vocals and GAEL of Diabolic for the drums.
