"Gods won't stop me / Hell won't have me" – thus proclaimed in the new work, Alpha and Omega, by the Louisville, KY-based band Anagnorisis. Drawing on the most aggressive and extreme parts from their debut full-length, Overton Trees, the blackened death metal band continues to march on with a renewed vigor and lust for the extreme.
Anagnorisis, derived from a Greek word meaning "self-realization," has its roots as a solo project of Austin Lunn, but quickly developed into a three piece with Adam Pierce on drums and Zachary Kerr on bass guitar. By 2005, when guitarist Zak Denham was asked to join the band, tracks such as "Birth of the Pariah" and "Virulence" demonstrated that Anagnorisis was moving towards a bolder and more intense sound.
After a handful of shows in 2006, Anagnorisis began touring in 2007, exposing fans to their brand of "symphonic death metal" through the Midwest and southern United States. Brought into the fold was keyboardist Samuel Hartman, adding synthesized passages on top of the metal onslaught.
2008 saw the departure of Austin Lunn, who was quickly replaced by vocalist Nathan Bowling. With this new lineup, touring in support of Overton Trees began, this time reaching the Eastern seaboard. As the band returned home from their touring in May, the recording of the new material began.
Now, almost a year after the release of Overton Trees, Anagnorisis presents their most bellicose collection of songs: Alpha and Omega. Released on January 1, 2009, this new work represents the irreligious and inexorable force of Anagnorisis; a statement demonstrated through their uncompromising live show and intensely professional caliber.
