| The Fallen Within is a young band coming from Greece, with Intoxicated, the group change up speed and proposes a modern metal with groove and industrial elements. Indeed, after the first two demos and a lot of change in line-up, it came time to finally make their first studio album and trust in Coroner Records to promote their album. The album was recorded at Sound Symmetry Studio and was mastered and mixed at Tico Tico studio with Ahti Kortelainen (Impaled Nazarene, Cryhavoc, Sonata Arctica, ...And Oceans) over Bob Katsionis from Firewind and Nightfall has also contributed to the production.
The influences of melodic death from northern countries and those of American metalcore are obvious. The presentation includes the groove and the contribution of electronic sounds of typical in Sybreed or Raunchy but also powerful, aggressive and ultra melodic metalcore such in Bleeding Through, Chimaira, or Killswitch Engage. Nothing really new in this world from the Greek, however, I will not say that the album is to lay directly to oblivion. For my part, I had to wait until the last tracks of the album to tempt me to listen again and guess what either pleases or discourages me in this album. What charmed me are the moments, like Winds Of Plague or The Agonist, where the group tries to experiment in orchestration coupled in melodic death environment. This association is made with precision and beauty. We find this in the eponymous track Intoxicated and The Great Fall. On the other hand, from Pain Right Under to Extinction, I am deeply annoying as the titles are all similar and don’t show surprising elements.
The album is rather short (40 min) but relatively intense and compact, so to say, that’s kick your ass from beginning to end (except for the intro and outro, which are quieter). Again, the production is perfect, everything is properly and surgically performed. If their next album follows the trail of Intoxicated, Last Breath and The Great Fall, we have to face a considerable album.
