The Italians Legion Of Darkness seems to have started their career in a fairly conventional way. Founded in 2001 by Lord Inferos and Flagellum, the group moved on 3 promising demos before providing their first album called Cantus with the label The Oath Records. The first demo of the group was in the vein of filthy black metal just like what we heard in the great era of the Inner Circle in the nineties (Burzum, Mayhem, Emperor ...). Then, from their second demo, the group has shifted to choosing a more characterized style, actually, they choose to play pagan metal with black consonance, more melodic with each album. Being stronger from this experience, Adranor from the industrial black metal band Throne Of Molok join the group and adds a new dimension to their compositions. From this group came recently their latest opus: Meridies.

The latter is still at promotional demo stage, seeking a new label to promote its broadcasting. And believe me, they clearly deserve! The work provided by the Italian trio is absolutely remarkable; it’s rather rare to find out high quality work with self-financed releases. We feel the tremendous work provided by the group to produce this album and the promotional video joined. Legion Of Darkness moved away from dirty raw black metal of the beginning to unveil art songs of melodic pagan black with Mediterranean ambiance and it’s better! The group opted to a formula that provides titles of about 10 minutes in novelistic way mixing melodies of acoustic guitar, violin, cello, flute and clear vocals with aggressive riffs and more traditional black growls. The music of Meridies reminds other Italian groups such as Graveworm, Stormlord and even Opera IX. But also other non-Italian bands such as Naglfar, Winter Of Sin and Samael (album Above). I appreciate very much the musical construction, everything goes on well and elements follow naturally.

It stands to reason that the group is tied to their country and its cultural heritage, which why they insist on the theme of Mediterranean; Meridies will not say south, midday in Latin translation? With a promotion like this, I'm surprised they have not yet signed with a label worthy of this name. Although the group name does not really mention, Meridies is 50 minutes of stunning melodies you must not miss.
