Additional Notes

Fishbrain
Germany based band Helrunar began its adventure with a 500 copies limited demo version of Grátr.Grátr which quickly ran sold out back in the days. As a result of this promising demo and the success it encountered. Following this very promising first demo, the group signed to the label Lupus Lounge Records on which it first released a split with Nachtmahr in 2005, followed by its first studio album: Frostnacht. Two years later, still on this very same label, b]Helrunar reveals a second studio album Baldr Ok Íss. However, the band’s first demo actually had seemed to be its most considered release by fans. This led the band to reissue b]Grátr with a brand new, simple yet effective atwork, for the greatest pleasure of its fans. The first 3000 copies are presented in a digipak version holding a band’s rare track Hauch wird Sturm.

In 2003, Helrunar was taking its first steps into the world of paganism but yet, was able to establish their style and demonstrate a strong maturity. The pagan sound of the band is meant to be sharp, through the use of slight but efficient pagan melodies to accompany a devastating black metal. This musical refinement can be heard in other pagan black formations such as excellent Ukrainian Drudkh or else Hellveto, Hellebaard, Theudho. Take the venomous vocals of Naglfar, the black melodies of Trimonium band and the guitar riffs and vocal lines of Minas Morgul, you'll get a small foretaste of what Grátr can offer.

Grátr is one of those albums full of hatred but which remains locked in all along. Even though the band mainly uses black metal sounds and rhythmic, music doesn’t appears harmful, there is a spiritual and individual force emanating from each of the tracks of this album. Whatsoever folks parts (e.g. choirs and quiet acoustic interlude) or in black melodic passages close to death metal sometimes. Grátr is simple, yet efficient, like a steamroller, Helrunar leaves nothing and no one unspoiled.
