| It stands to reason that Ettore Rigotti is in booming creative mode at this moment. In addition of being producer for some bands such as Slowmotion Apocalypse, Destrage or Stigma… He not only founded his label Coroner Records but also restarted the machine Disarmonia Mundi with the reissue of Nebularium and The rare EP The Restless Memoirs EP and now their fourth studio album The Isolation Game. Aside from the production of When Midnight Strikes! (Stigma), we can clearly consider Ettore Rigotti has become a cornerstone of melodic death metal from today. The album was recorded at The Metal House Studio, design from the artwork comes from the obscurarium none other than the French artist Trëz (Diluvian, Mehtnakriss, Magnify My Agony); stylistics makes me think the fantastic characters from movie El Laberinto del fauno).
Not surprisingly that we discover a new album from the Italian of Disarmonia Mundi saddled with the biggest melodic death clichés from today: a mixture of clear melodic vocals and growls, pretty fast screams and catchy clinical melodies which are equally fast. With The Isolation Game, the Italians will finally totally break off with progressive atmospheric sounds of their debut. The group tells us that even this would be the heaviest album they have recorded. In short, everything is properly adjusted, too strictly might say. We can hear here and there vocals from Björn "Speed" Strid as guest but also a few guitar solos from Olof Mörck (Nightrage). I still have a little sense of reliving the era of neo metal boom in the early 2000s, that is to say that we see come hundreds and hundreds of groups which plays with a slight difference the same thing. They are all well, but the excess of clones force-feed enough. The Isolation Game is a very good album from a technical, melodic and production point of view, but unfortunately lacks in any originality and personality. Note nonetheless titles Perdition Haze and Blacklight Rush whose fastest vocal parts remind me The Black Dahlia Murder and Glimmer.
We must still recognize the undeniable talent of the artist Ettore Rigotti in this album; he is the only master aboard playing all instruments and clean vocals, while Claudio Ravinale deals with almost every other vocals. It remains now to show us that he can also demonstrate ingenuity to surprise us in their next album. I think The Isolation Game delight rather the young public and less fans of all studded guys with corpsepaints.
