| It seems that the label Rupture Music has yet found a musical real treasure. Indeed, this label which are specialized in black / death metal must count Svart Crown on these lines. Svart Crown is a French young band coming from Nice founded in 2004, the style of the group is primarily more between black and death metal with a slight accent of hardcore. Ages Of Decay is the first studio album of the group, this release follows a first demo which was appreciated: Bloody Crown. Ages Of Decay was recorded by Sébastien Bernard (vocals of Artefact) at Stormlab Studio (Otargos, Artefact, Etheryäl) and then was mastered by Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Hatesphere).
The group had recently changed the line-up including drummer. Currently, to the drums, we have Gael Barthelemy of Drowning and Balrog. Indeed, Gael has brought his personal touch in the compositions which causes that the drum became the main element of the group such the snare drum and double kick are ubiquitous. At the same time, the opposite would be surprising for a group of black / death metal. Alongside Gael, JB (singer) is the other pillar of the band; the vocal varies from the one of Nergal (Behemoth) and the one of Ville Viljane (Mors Principium Est). There is no title that has out of the crowd, the titles are similar and composition lines are regular. This is not a problem to provide us devastating tracks with percussive riffs. There are still, for me, two titles that stand out, Pestilential Rising and Caligula. Throughout its 10 tracks and 45 minutes, we cannot do without acknowledging the diverse influences or similarities of style. When listening Ages Of Decay, we think to Artefact, Fornication, Spearhead, Destinity, Otargos and of course Behemoth. Small surprise with Orgy and Sodomy, we expect to hear a joke-track in humor of Ultra Vomit and Gronibard but it is not, it tends to unhealthy erotic samples such as Anorexia Nervosa.
For a first album, we must admit that quality is already present, remains to Svart Crown to detach themselves from various influences and to forge their own identity. We do not ask the group to abandon their devastating melodies, black metal passages, breakdowns or emaciated death part. Rather we hope to have more depth and personality in the next album. In any case, one thing is certain, in live, it must a killing spree. If I have the opportunity, I will be there! |
